Cupping Therapy in Ottawa

Cupping is a hands-on therapy that uses suction cups placed on the skin to lift the underlying soft tissue. At Carling Massage in Ottawa, cupping is used as part of a treatment session, paired with massage to release tight muscles, improve circulation, and speed recovery.

How cupping works

Cups (usually silicone or glass) are placed on the back, shoulders, neck, or any area being treated. A vacuum is created inside the cup, which gently lifts the skin and fascia. The lift decompresses tissues that get stuck under load — the opposite of what a typical massage stroke does. Most clients describe it as a deep, pulling sensation that feels surprisingly relieving.

What cupping helps with

About the marks

Cupping can leave temporary circular marks on the skin where the cups were placed. The marks are not bruises in the painful sense — they’re a sign that stagnant fluid was drawn to the surface. They typically fade within 3–7 days. If you have an event coming up where you want to wear something that exposes your back or shoulders, mention it before the session and Ingrid will adjust placement.

Cupping with massage

At Carling Massage, cupping is integrated into a regular massage therapy session rather than offered as a standalone service. The Registered Massage Therapy receipt covers the full treatment, which is eligible for direct billing through most extended health plans.
